The Ferrari Testarossa is one of the most cherished modern classics from the Prancing Horse, with its appearance in Miami Vice and its iconic wedge-shaped silhouette cementing it in automotive history as one of the most iconic supercars of its time. However, despite many enthusiasts wanting an open-top Spider version of the Testarossa, a production version of the Testarossa Spider was never made.

Ferrari produced a singular official Testarossa Spider, which was painted in Argento Nürburgring. Nonetheless, several coachbuilders provided customers with the option to create open-top versions of the Ferrari Testarossa Spider. Among them was Straman Coachworks, which crafted this particular 1986 Ferrari Testarossa Spider in a striking Nero color. This vehicle is one of just 12 Testarossa Spiders believed to have been constructed by Straman Coachworks, and it is one of only two known to be finished in black. In 1986, the conversion, which included a retractable soft top, added an additional $40,000 to the nearly $100,000 base price of the Testarossa—numbers that were staggering for that era.

The owner of the car was the renowned director Joe Pytka, who acquired the vehicle to showcase it in a series of four Pepsi commercials for the “The Chase” segment. Behind the wheel was the legendary “King of Pop,” Michael Jackson, who elegantly drove the Testarossa Spider to evade the paparazzi in the blockbuster advertisement.

The car was kept by Pytka until 2013, confirming that it was the car used in the commercial when it was acquired by a collector. Now, the stunning, unique masterpiece with its Hollywood story is listed for sale on duPont REGISTRY, available at Canepa in Scotts Valley, California with 17,729 original miles on its odometer. One of just 12 Testarossa Spider builds by Straman Coachworks, and one of just two examples finished in black, the car not only has high-profile fame but also ultimate exclusivity as a Ferrari modern classic.
