McDonald's is closing some of its newly-opened CosMc's spinoff locations just a year after launching its first, the company announced.

In a press statement released on Thursday, McDonald's said it will close three of its seven total locations opened since December of 2023. However, this isn't necessarily a sign the small-format side quest is going under, as two new locations will be built in their sted.

Certain CosMc's outlets were designed from scratch for this purpose, while others were established by transforming larger, previously existing McDonald's sites for the initiative. The company claims that the concept proves to be more effective in the smaller venues that were originally intended to support a more restricted selection of beverages and snacks.

"Since the launch of CosMc's, we've had the opportunity to explore various restaurant sizes and configurations, ranging from renovating expansive dining spaces to creating compact prototype locations that prioritize drive-thru and digital interactions," McDonald's mentioned in their statement. "We've discovered that these smaller format stores enable us to experiment with new and distinct scenarios that align with the preferences of our customers."

However, according to Svec, this trend has shifted. “Fitness brands have become a powerful force in attracting visitors to a center. This came after U.S. Department Of Labor investigations discovered that JBS’s third-party service providers employed children in dangerous jobs and during overnight shifts at the company’s facilities in Minnesota, Colorado, Iowa, and Nebraska. The agreement requires JBS to ensure that essential aspects of its supply chain, as well as third-party contractors and service providers, are held responsible for the issue of illegal child labor. Additionally, they are tasked with developing a focused advertising campaign aimed at educating the public about the dangers and prevalence of unlawful child labor practices. News about Diamond’s bankruptcy comes weeks after the company suddenly shuttered its flagship fulfillment center in Plattsburgh, NY, which the company’s VP of retailer services Chris Powell described as a necessary step to address longstanding operational issues that made its distribution process unsustainable. “Preferably, we would have developed and tested changes while maintaining our usual operations at Plattsburgh,” Powell stated. “Since that is no longer feasible, we are required to implement changes and trial them using real data and shipments, all while aiming to reduce the effect on retailers.” In recent years, many of Diamond’s bigger name publishing partners have dropped them as the company failed to meet expected delivery deadlines to retailers, which left stores struggling to meet customer demand.
