Martin Lewis referred to the device as a "demon."

A lot of individuals depend on tumble dryers to get their clothes and towels dry at home.

It often seems like the easy choice when you're pressed for time, but it might be pricier than you think. Over recent months, a variety of money saving tips have been circulating on TikTok, and one woman revealed the true cost of running a tumble dryer.

Shannen, who goes by the username _greengal on TikTok, revealed that drying a "full load" of towels set her back €2.35, approximately £1.98. She mentioned that the entire process took around an hour and 45 minutes.

The experiment led her to conclude that it's "way more efficient" to simply hang them out to dry. She acknowledged that this isn't always feasible due to factors like weather, but it can help save money.

Once she shared the video, audiences were taken aback by the high expenses associated with this everyday appliance. We frequently underestimate how minor mistakes can significantly increase our utility costs.

Since its upload, the video has garnered more than 16,000 views, prompting a flurry of comments from viewers who were eager to share their own tips and suggestions.

One person recommended, "Add a dry towel to the wet laundry; it helps them dry faster." Another tip was, "Give them a double spin cycle before placing them in the dryer."

Another individual chimed in, saying, "I can't imagine life without my dryer. It makes managing my household so much easier. I'm willing to pay the extra cost for that."

Many people might be unwittingly driving up their energy bills by making simple mistakes with their tumble dryers. Money saving guru Martin Lewis has previously highlighted that tumble dryers can be one of the most costly appliances to run in our homes.

Previously talking to BBC News, he advised: "Do you know what the real demon appliance is in most people's houses? The one that you don't want to use because it's really expensive - tumble dryers.

"Usually, you're spending around a pound for each laundry load, so consider drying your clothes on an outdoor airer to reduce the time you rely on your tumble dryer, or better yet, skip it altogether. If you have a dehumidifier, it can help remove excess moisture as well."

"It uses less power than the tumble dryer, making it potentially more efficient."

Martin's best advice? Be smart about drying your laundry, as it can greatly influence your energy expenses.
