The tow truck operator identified the vehicle, having previously towed it for the same issue just a month earlier.
As Tow Truck Dustin pointed out several times on his adventures from behind the wheel of his tow truck, General Motors is on his list of most frequent tows from a single manufacturer. He explains that GM brands suffer from faulty fuel system modules, which makes it so a driver can crank the engine, but it won’t start due to lack of fuel.
According to Dustin, many vehicles can’t be put into neutral due to the presence of an electronic shifter, which means he has to tow customer cars onto the rear of his truck.
In a recent video (@TowTruck_Dustin), a customer with a 2023 Cadillac XT4 had his fuel pump module fail on him after having driven only 3.5 miles from the dealership. Dustin recognized the XT4 from a tow job he’d done for the customer a month before.
“This is actually the second time I’ve had to tow this specific Cadillac,” Dustin remarked. “I towed it nearly a month ago to the day… It’s experiencing the same crank but no start problem. This marks the second breakdown it’s had within a month due to the same component.”
The owner mentioned that he won't purchase another Cadillac again.
The initial failure of the fuel pump module occurred at the owner's apartment, but the subsequent breakdown happened during his workout session. Unable to start the vehicle, he decided to call Dustin for assistance.
“Hard lesson, but I won’t be buying another Cadillac,” the owner remarked while shaking Dustin's hand. “I’ve only driven it 3.5 miles since picking it up from the dealership.”
The owner mentioned that the Caddy spent several weeks at the repair shop after the module malfunctioned initially. The delay was caused by the technicians waiting for the necessary parts to be delivered. While he was pleased to have his Cadillac returned, he was not too excited about having to bring it back to the dealership so soon for the same problem.
Although the repair at the dealership comes at no cost, the towing service will incur a charge.
"Looks like we're dealing with the same fuel pump module issue as before," Dustin remarked. "That's just unbelievable."
Dustin is well-known for his criticism of GM regarding their decision not to issue a recall for the fuel pump module problem. His followers couldn't resist making light of the situation, suggesting that this controversy is helping to maintain his income.
"A viewer commented, 'You ought to include that dealership along with your business car in EVERY sale!'"
Another suggested that individuals should view his videos prior to visiting a dealership.
"They mentioned that your channel is the ideal place to check out before making a decision on a new car purchase."
Some people expressed that GM appeared to lack enthusiasm for addressing the problem after dealing with it for four years.
"I’m amazed at the number of GM vehicles you haul away that are out of commission, and you're doing it all on your own," they commented. "Just think about how many other tow truck operators are dealing with the same situation!"
