Real Madrid are reportedly open to selling midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, who has fallen out of favour at the Bernabeu.

The rumblings of discontent surfaced after the French midfielder's display in the 1-1 derby result against Atletico Madrid last month. The 24-year-old started the game alongside 39-year-old Luka Modric in the heart of Madrid's midfield but by the end of the clash it was the veteran Modric who made the bigger defensive impact than his younger midfield partner.

In Saturday's 4-0 humbling by Barcelona, Tchouameni was replaced just after the hour for the Croatian.

Appraisal of Tchouameni's performance this term has not been aided by the departure of Toni Kroos and the collective drop-off among the entire squad as a result.

According to Spanish outlet Relevo, the club are now willing to sanction a move for a player once considered unsellable, who they acquired from Monaco for £85million in 2022.

The outlet claim that manager Carlo Ancelotti retains faith in the Frenchman and believes that he is the best option he has to anchor the midfield, but the hierarchy are more convinced by Eduardo Camavinga.

Madrid coaching staff reportedly still feel Camavinga lacks the tactical sense to play in that position. The Spanish giants could look to swoop for Manchester City star and 2024 Ballon d'Or winner Rodri next summer.

Tchouameni has made 102 appearances for Madrid since his big-money move and helped the side claim a LaLiga title and Champions League.

His 2023-24 campaign was cut short by a foot injury, which ruled him out of the Champions League final and France's opening game at Euro 2024. Tchouameni, who has earned 36 caps for Les Bleus, was a key part of the team that reached the final of the 2022 World Cup.

Real claimed a league and Champions League double last term and bolstered their ranks in the summer with the addition of Kylian Mbappe. Unfortunately, the Frenchman has failed to make a big impact since his arrival.

Instead, his presence appears to have negatively altered the balance of Ancelotti's squad.
