The internet is currently in a frenzy over airplane etiquette following a viral incident that sparked widespread debate.

A video on social media has the internet divided over what's acceptable behavior in first-class

A woman shared a video of herself brushing her hair in business class and revealed another passenger in the background giving her dirty looks.

"While I focus on my own work in business class, my aunt can't help but shoot me some disapproving looks," she wrote in the caption.

In the footage, the woman is shown styling her hair, securing it in place, and settling into her roomy first-class seat.

As she styled her hair for the video, another woman in the background watched her with a look of disbelief and revulsion.

The original creator turned off the comments on her post, however, an Instagram account reposted the video with the caption, 'I just want to brush my hair in peace.'

The incident sparked an immediate response online, with numerous individuals expressing their opinions in the comments about whether the behavior was acceptable.

"Excuse me, ma'am, but there's a spacious restroom in first class that can accommodate everything," one person remarked. Another chimed in, "No way, she should definitely bring that brush to the bathroom. (And don't forget the camera)."

The woman who posted the video called out another passenger for giving her an unpleasant glare.

Some individuals highlighted the unsanitary nature of grooming one's hair in dining areas, with one commenter stating, 'I really don't want someone brushing their hair beside me in a cramped space. Are their trays even down? No thanks. Please keep your loose hairs to yourself.'

'Brushing or combing your hair outside of the bathroom is not hygienic. Hair collects various particles and substances that can easily spread once disturbed. Consider this your friendly reminder…'

"Seriously, please don't groom your hair next to me in business class. This isn't your personal bathroom," remarked a fifth person.

"I really don't want to see anyone brushing their hair, okay? It doesn't matter if it's yours or someone else's. It's just disgusting!" a sixth voice interjected.

Although some individuals expressed criticism towards the woman's behavior, many others rushed to her defense.

"Can you believe it? Someone else is just minding their own business, simply combing their hair, and here we are, shaking our heads in disbelief," remarked one observer.

"Seriously? People comb their hair during long flights... everyone just needs to relax. Plus, people eat and use the restroom on these flights too," another person chimed in.

Opinions on what constitutes acceptable conduct on an airplane have sparked a significant debate across the internet.

A few opted for a more tactful strategy by acknowledging both perspectives. "While it's perfectly fine to style your hair, it’s best to do so in the restroom. After all, the hair that’s being combed or brushed has to end up somewhere, so why not dispose of it in the trash?"

"Listen, sis… This is exactly why many of us take the time to sanitize everything when we board a plane. That old lady’s judgment was uncalled for, but I can understand why those flying Delta 1, First Class, or Business Class might feel a bit uneasy," another person commented.

While social media users appear to have differing opinions on the appropriateness of brushing hair in public, etiquette specialists have made their stance clear.

Diane Gottsman, an expert in etiquette and the proprietor of The Protocol School of Texas, shared with Dailymail.com that it is best to refrain from practicing personal hygiene in public settings.

"It's quite uncomfortable when someone is brushing their hair right beside you, and the strands are drifting into someone else's personal space," she remarked.

Elaine Swann, the founder of Swann School of Protocol and a former flight attendant told The Washington Post that passengers need to be aware of their space on a plane.

'I think people are forgetting that they are still in a public environment,' she said. 'We're on the aircraft and it's small. It feels very much like this is our own space. It's not out and about, walking in the mall or what have you, but an airplane is still a public environment.'

According to a Nexstar survey, the top most offensive airplane faux pas was personal grooming.

While survey participants did not explicitly mention hair brushing as an issue, they perceived that various grooming activities—such as painting nails, clipping nails, trimming beards, or brushing teeth—reflected a deficiency in social skills.
